My biggest career advice would be to never leave school!
My pathway to Niya:
Age 15, I Mowed lawns, failed to scale customer base beyond my mother.
Joined a catering agency, dropped my first ever tray of champagne. In front of all the guests.
Fled the UK and worked as an analyst in the US Senate, rode an elevator with the late John McCain… retired early from politics.
Returned from exile, worked in a locals bar whilst studying at University. Learnt 10x more about the world from my customers than from my lecturers.
Moved to London to become a youth worker. Really just an excuse to not grow up yet.
Got into business by joining a social investment fund as a business consultant and operations manager. Loved it, but wasn’t very good at it.
Joined a global innovation consultancy to tell tier-1 investment banks how to better manage their data. Despite 0 years experience. Turned out was quite good at it… but didn’t love it.
Co-Founded Niya to transform the future of work and bring economic inclusion to all. Managed to scale it beyond my mother, still dropping the occasional tray, learning more than I ever imagined, and not retiring any time soon. Love it, and… we’re getting pretty good at it.
